Inspired by the historical tale of King Manuel I’s grand vision to construct a summer pavilion for the royal family, this game invites players to step into the shoes of master artisans tasked with this noble endeavor. Although the king’s untimely demise halted the original project, the game revives this quest for architectural excellence.

In “Azul: Summer Pavilion,” players engage in six rounds of intricate tile drafting and placement, aiming to adorn the summer pavilion with the most splendid patterns. Each round presents a new challenge as players select from six colors of tiles, each becoming wild in different rounds, adding a strategic depth to the game.

The gameplay unfolds with players drawing tiles from the bag to refill factories, then strategically drafting these tiles to construct their pavilion. Players must choose tiles from either a factory or the center of the table, always mindful of the wild tiles’ effect on their strategy. Careful planning and efficient use of materials are key, as wasted supplies incur penalties.

Each player board displays seven stars, each requiring specific colors and quantities of tiles to complete. Skillfully placing tiles not only earns immediate points but also sets the stage for larger scores through connected patterns. Bonus points are awarded for surrounding pillars, statues, or windows, and for completing stars or covering specific spaces on the board.

After six engaging rounds, the game concludes with additional bonuses for completed stars and covered spaces, while unused tiles result in point deductions. The player with the most points emerges as the most esteemed artisan, winning the game.
