Description:
Cities of Splendor,” an expansion by Space Cowboys for the acclaimed 2014 Golden Geek Board Game of the Year winner and Spiel des Jahres nominee, Splendor, enriches the gaming experience with four distinct modules. Splendor, designed by Marc André, is an elegant family game that revolves around card drafting and tableau building, and “Cities of Splendor” offers an array of new ways to enjoy this captivating gameplay. These four expansions can be enjoyed individually, each introducing unique and engaging variations without burdening the game with unnecessary complexity.
The “Cities” expansion transforms the game’s victory condition, eliminating the base game’s noble tiles. Instead, players will unveil three out of seven double-sided city tiles, igniting a race to be the first to fulfill the printed victory condition on one of these tiles. This condition encompasses a specific score and a set of particular colored cards needed in your tableau.
With the “Strongholds” module, players each acquire three plastic strongholds of a designated color. As the game progresses, whenever you purchase a card, you strategically place or relocate one of your strongholds onto a card devoid of an opponent’s stronghold. The presence of strongholds effectively reserves cards for you, granting an additional purchase action when all three of your strongholds occupy a single card.
“Trading Posts” introduces a new board displaying special abilities players can obtain by accomplishing specific objectives. Players mark their achievements with colored coat of arms markers. Beware, as these bonuses wield significant power!
“The Orient” broadens the pool of available cards, incorporating an additional deck beside the main one. This expansion presents three tiers of Orient cards, each bestowing peculiar and marvelous benefits such as double bonuses, the ability to reserve a noble, and interactions with cards already present in your tableau.
Each of these expansion modules imbues Splendor with a distinct and refreshing gameplay experience, promising to keep the game engaging and enjoyable for years to come.
